Survey on the use of generative AI in academic research

Brief information on the purpose and aims of the survey

This survey is part of a research project titled "Muse Machine: Assessing the Utilization and Ethics of AI in Danish Scientific Research". The aim of this project is to estimate the use of generative AI in various research tasks, and how ethical academic researchers consider the use of generative AI for these tasks, across all of academia in Denmark.

The survey is conducted by researchers from the Danish Center for Studies in Research and Research Policy at Aarhus University, as an independent research project.

Participation

We are contacting researchers directly through e-mail, with a personalised link. It is not possible to participate without this link. All e-mail addresses have been obtained from publicly available sources.

Anonymity

We are not collecting any sensitive data, and when the survey concludes in the middle of February, all responses will be fully anonymised. During the collection phase we maintain a list of emails to track who we have contacted. As soon as the survey is completed, this information, along with any identifying information, is completely removed from the responses. All responses will be removed from the server and kept only on Aarhus University hardware, without external access and with internal access control.

Should you wish to withdraw your responses, this must be done before the survey concludes, as it will no longer be possible to identify your responses afterwards. To withdraw your responses, send an email with the subject line "withdraw" to jpa@ps.au.dk.
